Top 3 Reasons to go with a VoIP Phone from Polycom

The text below is a transcript of the audio. (No alterations have been made to this recording the audio is true from each phone and they were recorded using a dynamic microphone. HD audio was recorded on a Polycom to Polycom call.)

Polycom HD Audio and Other Features by GLOBALINX

Hi this is Jeremiah with GLOBALINX calling on your average phone but I’m actually going to call back on a Polycom phone so you can hear the difference between speaker quality from this average phone to a Polycom Phone...

Hi its Jeremiah again, you can now hear the drastic difference between the audio speaker quality on this Polycom from that of the average phone before.

1. HD Audio Quality

This is the HD quality of Polycom over their state-of-the-art speakers and this among other features makes Polycom the single best choice of phone for conference rooms and desks. The clarity of the voice makes every word easily understood on every call. And the HD quality is possible without an HD codec; saving you precious bandwidth space.

2. Stability and Security

Polycom phones also have a high level of stability and security. The phones are very user friendly and first time users will feel comfortable sitting down and making a call with a Polycom for the first time. The call quality is so consistent you will begin to take it for granted until you use an average phone and you’ll start to wonder why you don’t carry your Polycom around with you. The Phones also tout an impressive five 9s of phone uptime. Fraud prevention is a Polycom speciality as user names and passwords are encrypted in the phone itself configured over a secure connection for safe calling.

3. BroadWorks Premiere Certified

On top of all this, Polycom Phones are BroadWorks Premiere Certified products meaning the phones are pre-configured to the GLOBALINX/BroadWorks platform truly making it a Plug-N-Play device.

This is Jeremiah with GLOBALINX calling you and being heard through Polycom phones. Talk to you later. Bye Bye.

Low Ethernet Rates from GLOBALINX for a Limited Time

It’s amazing how many businesses still have a DSL/Cable connection to the Internet. I went to get my hair cut the other day and I paid with my credit card and it took the longest time for my payment to go through. “Sorry,” the woman said, “we have a DSL connection here so it takes a minute”. I could actually see the connection being made, it was so slow. I couldn’t believe it. This wasn’t a little mom-and-pop place either. It was a franchise with multiple locations so they should definitely be able to afford a quality Internet connection. I made some obscure 1990s reference jokingly and went on my way.

When we released our low Ethernet rates promo a week or two ago, I thought of this story and how that business could benefit from our current low Ethernet Port pricing. They would be able to work so much more efficiently with an Internet connection that had vastly improved bandwidth and quality for just a couple of dollars more a month.

For a limited time you can save your customers up to 27% on Burstable Full and Partial Gig-E Internet Ports with plans starting at $1,400 and up to 36% on Burstable Full and Partial Fast-E Internet Ports with plans starting at $400! Be sure to take advantage of these great limited time prices. Give us a call, we can check to see if you are in an area that can take advantage of this new pricing. The map below will give you an idea of the included areas (click to enlarge).

You have the opportunity to bring your customers into the 21st Century with these great connection speeds. Hurry, though, these great rates won’t last long.

If you would like more information, email salessupport@globalinxsolutions.com or call 866-999-1133. For new and re-terming customers. Two year agreement required.

GLOBALINX Partners with IP NetZone to Provide Customer with Converged Networking Solution

The possibilities are for new innovations in communications are endless in this industry and to be a part of it everyday excites us. Currently, our most exciting project is helping an existing customer of GLOBALINX with three call centers in different locations across the US create a virtual private network that will connect all three call centers with the help of our MPLS based VPN Network provider, IP NetZone.

This customer was able to replace their expensive, outdated Private Lines at each location by creating a meshed MPLS based IP VPN network that will connect all three call center locations over encrypted secure VPN tunneling. This allowed the call center to operate from one centralized location, via a single connection from each site to IP NetZone’s private network cloud , instead of running three different networks. This allowed the customer to streamline their processes, improve their service quality and save monthly transmission costs for their GLOBALINX VoIP services

Watch for more news on this MPLS Networks and their advantages in QoS based virtual network support.

If you are interested in learning more about our private networks or other custom solutions contact salssupport@globalinxsolutions.com.

My First Few Weeks at GLOBALINX

Guest Blogger
Cody Jenkins
Director of Agent Sales at GLOBALINX

During my first few days at GLOBALINX, I’ve felt everything from being excited to being overwhelmed and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it! I also received a few calls from friends and acquaintances in the telecom industry expressing their positive thoughts about GLOBALINX and legacy TMC that reinforced my appreciation for the opportunity to come to GLOBALINX!

While getting to know the Regional Directors, I had a very positive initial perception about their dedication to their Agent Partners, to the end customer and to product knowledge. I had similar experience with the sales engineering and support teams! I was also impressed with the flexibility of thought in providing spiffs, specials, and incentives to our Agent Partners.

It took me a few days to catch on to the internal company acronyms (like TPS and GBO) but I think I’m starting to get the gist of it. The GLOBALINX Marketing department is very forward thinking about social media and I’ve heard a lot about Twitter and Blogging. I’m already becoming involved (i.e. this blog post) and I’m also considering creating a Twitter account. If you’d like to see me make a Twitter account, let me know in the comment section below this post.

I’ve spent a considerable amount of time working though the product set, process, agreements, trends, results, forecasts etc. and I’m still learning more about GLOBALINX everyday. I’m glad to be here at GLOBALINX!

GLOBALINX Joins ADVODA and Donates to Toys for Tots Program

It’s that time of year again. When the hearts of men and women open up to help others. In that spirit, GLOBALINX recently donated resources and time to support ADVODA’s annual Toys for Tots event on November 8th.

The ADVODA Toys for Tots program started by breaking the group into teams, then ADVODA and Marine Corps Representatives provided participating teams with a budgeted amount to spend on toys for children and a scavenger list of items. The teams met quickly to plan their shopping location and strategy to complete the list of tasks.

Teams came back with a myriad of toys including action figures, stuffed animals, musical instruments and board games. All participants received their Toys for Tots Marine Corps “Dog” tag, along with great food and drink.

“It was so much fun to be a part of this event again this year,” said Shannon Martin who represented GLOBALINX at the event. “This industry is all about communication and it’s always important to remember the kids and communicate to the children in need that they are loved and wanted.”

Savings for Seasonal Businesses

Effectively managing call traffic during peak and lull periods is critical for seasonal businesses. Rapid expansion of the seat/trunk capacity to a location can help ensure that an unexpected event can be covered by quickly reactivating the call paths that are in “off-season” mode along with creating forwarding, attendant and ring scenarios that support the business needs, as personnel staffing expands at the start of an “on-season” period.

Businesses that are most commonly associated with highly variable calendar or time-based changes can include: regional amusement parks and associated businesses, vacation destinations, ski centers and even some governmental entities. These businesses need a rich and flexible service set to support the increasingly complex logistical and operational requirements that are placed on their business by changes in volume and traffic demographics.

Seasonal hosted services provide specially tailored packages of tools for seasonal businesses that include near real time seat suspension and turn-up capabilities, attendant tools, unified messaging, automated attendant capabilities, and mobility services. These tools help to control the costs involved with seasonal or calendar-based changes, while keeping the feature sets in place to allow a business or organization to communicate effectively with reduced staff and resources.

GLOBALINX service packages are available without the cost and limitations of trying to modify premises-based equipment to meet the fluctuating needs of a seasonal business. With these packages, retailers can dramatically reduce their total cost of their “off-season” communications, while leveraging a quick ramp-up to full capacity when their “in-season” period begins.

A Cloud Burst: Great Potential in The Cloud

Unless you’ve been living under a rock these past few years you’ve heard about “The Cloud” as a broad term for how applications and services (such as email, ordering systems, banking, Hosted Telephony services, document storage and many others) would be delivered to individuals and companies over the Internet (e.g. the Cloud). There’s been a lot of talk about the greatly increased potential for providing these services through The Cloud. Most of this increased potential has occurred as a result of “thinner” or more efficient program platforms combined with a dramatic increase in Internet Access bandwidth. When combined, these two technology improvements have allowed “Cloud” based applications and services to be efficient and effective for most users.

It is interesting to note that “Cloud Services” have actually been around for users for quite some time. Ever heard of Gmail? It’s in The Cloud. How about Google Docs? On-Line Banking? Netflix? All of these services are in The Cloud.

The increased potential of The Cloud really shows itself in small to medium businesses. The Cloud allows these businesses to “host” their normal office services (such as Email, Telephony services and Web Site hosting) offsite; which can result in huge savings over maintaining these programs and platforms at each location or desktop. If a small business does not have the means to purchase their own servers and other hardware, they can “lease” space and technology in The Cloud and host websites, email, Human Resource programs, even their phone systems. Not surprisingly, these are called Hosted Services because the information is not stored on equipment belonging to the business. These services are hosted at a partner's site in “The Cloud”.

When it comes down to it, Hosted Services level the playing field between the SMBs and the Enterprises. Hosted Services allow SMBs to stop worrying about internal processes like email and phone services and spend more time selling their own products and services.

Here’s a Call Center example. It can often cost up to a million dollars for a Call Center to install all the fiber lines, premise based telephony hardware and software, plus hire a maintenance staff to make a call center run properly and efficiently. Instead that Call Center could purchase Hosted IVR services. Hosted IVR is a Call Center program that is hosted in The Cloud and can be accessed by a laptop anywhere with an Internet connection. It costs much less than if a business did everything themselves. Call Center employees can work from home with a Hosted IVR system and all that is necessary is a laptop and a USB phone headset. A desktop phone is not necessary. Hosted IVR systems also have tremendous call statistics (especially the GLOBALINX Hosted IVR) that are recorded and saved in The Cloud.

A Call Center can save so much money and get so much more with a Hosted IVR system. There are minimal hardware installation costs, no money spent creating call center software and a minimal on-site staff needed to support all of this technology, plus the company has access to complete call statistics and the Hosted IVR system can be accessed anywhere with Internet connection.

That’s the true potential of The Cloud and without a doubt there are so many more possibilities to come.

GLOBALINX SIP Interconnection

Bringing Businesses into the Present without a new Telephony System

Companies do not need to invest in a completely new telephony system if they wish to enter the world of VoIP. It is very possible to use their current Legacy TDM PBX with GLOBALINX SIP Interconnection.

With GLOBALINX SIP Interconnection, we can simply add an Integrated Access Device (IAD) to translate the analog signals from a business’s Legacy TDM PBX into an IP-based signal. The business will be able to make outbound VoIP calls and their inbound calls will also be delivered through VoIP. This can save the business quite a bit of money.

Here’s how they’ll keep extra cash with SIP Interconnection from GLOBALINX:

  1. There is no need to invest in a new telephony system. A company will only need an IAD for their SIP Interconnection, which is available to buy or lease from GLOBALINX.
  2. VoIP is much cheaper than traditional voice methods, reducing monthly line expenses and administrative expenses.
  3. Voice Mail, Call Forwarding, Call Waiting and more features can be included with the GLOBALINX SIP Interconnection service, if needed.
  4. GLOBALINX also provides disaster recovery solutions to redirect calls so companies never miss a call back from a hot lead.

GLOBALINX SIP Interconnection is a great way to save a customer money without changing their existing telephony system. Visit the “Marketing Documents” section of the GLOBALINX Agent Website to download informational flyers to hand to prospects about SIP Interconnection and SIP Trunking.

Why Hosted PBX is Perfect for Small to Medium Businesses

We’ve been getting a few questions about Hosted PBX service and how it can fit businesses. In short, Hosted PBX service is perfect for small businesses that have 50 employees or less.

There are many reasons why a small business would want to use Hosted PBX service. The first, and most important, is that there is no need for expensive on-site phone system equipment. Hosted PBX service uses a IP based soft-switch so all calls go through the Cloud, eliminating the need for PRI-ISDN Trunks or POTS Lines. Since there is no need for expensive onsite PBX control equipment, there is also a reduced need for staffing to help support this equipment. The monthly payments are also much less than ISDN Trunks (PBX) or POTS (KSU) premise based solutions for small companies if the company remains below 50 seats.

Once the company goes over 50 seats on a Hosted PBX service the cost of individual MRCs comes into play more and it is necessary to start looking at SIP Trunking solutions to their current onsite premise telephony equipment to help keep overall costs down.

We encourage you to review and use the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) analysis tool that is available on the Agent site in the Marketing Documents section, behind the login, to assist you and your customers in making the correct choice between Hosted PBX or SIP Trunking.

Double Polycom SPIFF Now

Starting today, GLOBALINX Agents will be rewarded with double the SPIFF when they sell Polycom phones with GLOBALINX Hosted PBX service.

Now, instead of receiving $25 dollars for every Ploycom Phone sold, an Agent will receive $50 for every Polycom phone sold with Hosted PBX service.

If the Agent completes the VoIP Sales Training Course from Polycom, or has one member from their team complete the course, they will be rewarded with $100 for every Polycom phone sold with a Hosted PBX service. (Click here for directions to register for the VoIP Sales Training).

Refer to the blog posted on June 3rd, “Get Cash for Every Polycom Phone You Sell.” In this piece GLOBALINX Agent, Jane, made $1,000 just from the 20 Polycom phones she sold. Doing that during this last week of June would earn her $2,000. Pretty impressive.

One Trunk, Five Seats

Finding the best option for customers while also saving them money is important in customer relations and keeping customers happy. A smaller/midsize business with about 30 employees may have a SIP Trunking service to their IP or TDM-based PBX. A great way to save a customer money is to remember that it is not necessary to have one trunk for every seat. In most cases, businesses can have about five seats for every trunk. When you combine SIP Trunking on a T-1 with the customer’s Internet access on a single Converged connection, you can often eliminate a voice T-1 into a business and save the customer even more monthly cost.

So if we apply this rule, a company that has 40 employees would only need eight trunks, which could occupy as little as 400K of a 1.5Mb T-1, leaving plenty of bandwidth for Internet access on the same Converged loop. If this company were to buy a trunk for every seat it would cost about $600.00 monthly. Eight trunks would only cost about $160.00 monthly, plus $300-500 MRC saved when the Voice T-1 is eliminated. This can save the customer a significant amount of money on a monthly basis.

You can see the difference.

Unfortunately, we cannot apply this rule to call centers or call center departments because phone usage is too high for one trunk to accommodate five seats.

Get Cash for Every Polycom Phone You Sell.

The title says it all. All applicable Agents receive at least $25 for every Polycom phone sold with GLOBALINX Hosted PBX service during the month of June. If an Agent, or a member of an Agent’s team, has taken and passed the Polycom VoIP Sales Training course we will increase the spiff to $50 for every Polycom Phone sold with Hosted PBX service in June.

(Registering for the Polycom VoIP Sales Training course is explained in a video on the May 11th blog post.)

Let’s put this in perspective with a little story…

GLOBALINX Agent, Jane, took two hours Monday morning to take and pass the Polycom VoIP Sales Training course. Jane had scheduled her whole morning to take the course but it had only taken her a couple of hours so she was able to catch up on her email and read the latest telecom headlines before meeting a prospective customer at 1:30.

Jane’s prospective customer was a small business, employing about 25 people. The business provides a service by fixing speakers, mixers, and other audio equipment used in live entertainment performance settings. Jane recommends a Hosted PBX service to the business because of their smaller size. Jane also recommends Polycom phones for the business aware of the added-value and knowing that Polycom phones are HD-capable without having to buy extra bandwidth to support the HD. The business is very excited to hear about the HD features of the Polycom phones and can appreciate the value of great sound being in the business of audio equipment.

The business takes Jane’s recommendations and signs up for GLOBALINX Hosted PBX service and buys 20 Polycom phones. Eighteen of the phones are Polycom SoundPoint IP 335 phones and the other two are Polycom SoundPoint IP 650 phones, one for the receptionist and one for the CEO.

Jane receives her regular commission payment for the new Hosted PBX account AND receives $50 for every Polycom phone she sold that day because she had completed the VoIP Sales Training course. So just for selling Polycom phones with GLOBALINX, she earned an extra $1,000!

Not a bad day’s work.

Get free equipment with the Polycom Demo Program from GLOBALINX

Starting May 1st, GLOBALINX is offering free, preprogrammed, demo Polycom SoundPoint IP335 and IP650 phones to the first ten agents who qualify for the demo program.

What does it take to qualify? It’s simple. To qualify, an agent has to be accepted for VoIP certification by the Polycom University and that agent, or another agent in the organization, has to take and pass the Polycom VoIP Sales Certification course. Once the agent has passed the Sales portion of the Certification process and has started proposing Polycom as a part of a Hosted PBX offering they can then receive the demo phones.

The Agent then needs to sell at least $1,000 in Polycom equipment phones in the second quarter of 2011 to keep the demo phones. If an agent sells $2,000 in Polycom equipment in the second quarter of 2011, the agent will also receive the Polycom IP6000 “Starfish” phone to add to the agent’s demo pool.

These demo phones can be used to show potential customers the value of Polycom IP Telephony at customer sites or in the Agent’s office. The demo phones come completely preprogrammed so they are ready to use upon arrival.

Polycom does not charge for certification and you can use the demo phones we provide to you to complete the demo CPE listing portion of the certification. This is a great opportunity to become certified and start selling Polycom phones at no cost to you!

Selling Polycom equipment is not the only way to get involved with the Polycom Demo Program. If an agent follows @GLOBALINX_agent on Twitter and also has completed the Polycom Sales training, as noted above, he or she will automatically be entered to win a free Polycom SoundPoint 650 Demo Phone. That’s a value of over $350. Click here to follow GLOBALINX Agent on Twitter and automatically be entered to win.

Log into the GLOBALINX Agent website and visit the Promotions page to sign up and learn more about the Polycom Demo Program.

Using the 50% Rule for Calculating VoIP Traffic in a Converged Access Offering.

After the SIP Trunking and Interconnection Webinar we held a couple of weeks ago, we thought it would be helpful to give a little bit more detail on the 50% Rule, so below is a short list of things to remember.

  • Always remember that it is the upload speed that is the critical speed for calculating SIP traffic.
  • In symmetric offering like T-1 or sDSL/shDSL access the upload and download speeds will be the same.
  • In cable, aDSL, some FTTH offerings the download speed will significantly lower than the upload speed.
  • Also remember with all DSL access that the speeds decrease dramatically with distance, especially beyond 2 miles from the local Telco distribution point
  • Always use a bandwidth tester/probe from the customers premise to determine the actual bandwidth that the customer has available for all applications (Voice, Data VPN etc).
  • Make sure you account for intermittent traffic or latency sensitive traffic (PoS and VPNs) that may be affected or may affect the VoIP traffic on the Converged Access connection.
  • Always consider that 50% of the Upload bandwidth (in Kb) to be the maximum amount of bandwidth that is available for VoIP traffic for the Access connection used.
  • Take that number (in KB) and divide it by 40 for traffic that uses G.729 Voice protocol and 85 for traffic that uses G.729 Voice protocol to determine the maximum number of SIP Trunks that can be activated on a Converged Access pathway.

A Visit to Los Cabos

After a personal visit to the Dreams Resort in Los Cabos, we must say that it is quite a prize for any, and all, Agents who increase their total billing by $15,000 dollars.

It was sunny and in the mid 80s for the entire weekend during our visit. The combination of the ocean, desert, and mountain scenery is something amazing to witness. We spent much time scoping out what you, the successful Agent, can be a part of in this divine, relaxing area (but we also did spend a little time taking advantage of the poolside spots and the all-inclusivity of the food and drink).

Some of the vacant hammocks want company during their all-day bask in the southern sun. There are miles of beach and plenty of room to find a quiet, comfortable place in the sand. Oh, and feel free to gratify your glutinous side with all-inclusive food and drink. There’s something special about a margarita on the beach.

The Cabo Real Golf Course was a beautiful green course in the desert which is Golf Digest rated. The first nine holes were very challenging and the last nine were full of great views of the ocean with two holes only a few yards away from water. If you golf, this is a course that you need to play.

There are also many excursions that are not included in the prize but still are a great time. You can kayak close to the shores of the beach, go scuba diving or snorkeling, go deep-sea fishing or whale watching. The list seems endless.

Our quick visit to the Dreams Los Cabos resort made us excited for all GLOBALINX Agents. It is a great reward for any and all hard working, successful Agents and we hope that you are as excited as we are.

See you there.

The Pulse Dialing Houdini

In honor of Harry Houdini’s birthday today, I’d like to look at a wonderful piece of telecom technology that has disappeared… Rotary Phones. Just the thought of pulse dialing technology releases a nostalgic air. And seeing the phones or touching the phones really takes you back to a time where everything isn’t so fast.

It took time to dial a number on a rotary phone. The phones send pluses for each number you dialed. Sometimes I wish that I had a rotary phone now. I would use it on weekends when I don’t need to get things done in a hurry and spend time talking to my grandmother in South Carolina on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Here’s the pulse dialing Houdini: it is just too slow to work in the world of IP telephony. There are adapters out there that would take the pulses of a rotary phone and convert it to touch tones, but it’s still not the same. The pulse has ceased but the rotary phone will remain in our hearts forever.

Here’s to the rotary phone and its inevitable disappearing act. You will forever be remembered.

Change is Good.

Change is good. You’ve heard it from everybody. From vacuum cleaner companies and football teams. But good, reliable change is built upon a solid, proven foundation. Both GLOBALINX® and TMC had proven records of success and innovation in the past and the future of the new, combined GLOBALINX will be built on that same solid foundation.

After the acquisition of TMC by GLOBALINX, nothing was changed within the system. The staff and employees whom you are used to working with are still available to help you with your questions and concerns. All of the products and services that you sold in the past are still available from GLOBALINX. Even your username and password are the same on the new GLOBALINX agent website where you can find the same order forms and rate sheets. This is the foundation of same on which we are building a change.

So what has changed? To begin with, there are many new products and services that are becoming available for you to sell. For example, we dropped the pricing on our BroadWorks®-based Hosted PBX and SIP Trunking offering, while still providing you with flexible commission payouts. We’ve also added the Yealink IP phone series to our Hosted PBX CPE list as a reliable alternative to many of the market’s branded (but expensive) IP phones. Our Hosted PBX offering and our SIP Trunking offerings will now originate from our own, gold-standard, BroadSoft BroadWorks® platform. Having our own platform allows us to deliver all of these great services at a lower price with more in-house control. Finally, the agent website has been updated and moved to: http://www.GLOBALINXagent.com. Here you can sign in, find forms, and access Quotrak the same way that you have in past at the TMC agent website.

All of us here at GLOBALINX are excited about the future and bringing you more great products and services. When standing on two great foundations, change is good.
